TED is a non-profit organization that aims to diffuse original and valuable ideas. Considering its success, TED expanded its view and created a new program: TEDx. TEDx follows the TED spirit. The aim is to share an experience of knowledge diffusion and appropriation for participants. But contrary to a traditional TED conference, the event is local, non-profit, and self-organized. Our team comprises volunteers with expertise in sustainability or event organizing, the Pro loco of Bellano, the Province of Lecco, and the Region of Lombardy. Therefore, our event is called TEDxBellano, where x=” TED event organized independently”. This means that TEDxBellano has been organized by our local team but still following the general guideline of TEDx with an obtained license.
As a title for this first edition of TEDxBellano, we choose Lago della Bilancia, focusing on the theme of equilibrium. Indeed, in our society, characterized by uncertainty and sudden changes, the balance represents each action that can restore this equilibrium. In this sense, we want to speak about people raising awareness thanks to their choices and actions, leading to building a more sustainable and inclusive future to bring back harmony and stability.
The location is the Orrido di Bellano, a symbolic place since it is a natural gorge that contains the strength of an impetuous river in perpetual flow and change. A narrow Orrido, in which humans have attempted to create a path navigating between its natural angularities. It represented thus a suspended balance between people and nature that does not accept any misstep.
At our event, the intervention of our speakers live, and the networking with an audience of 100 spectators will create strong connections with important moments of discussion and exchange. We also hope that TEDxBellano could trigger people to be willing to contribute to the equilibrium of our territory.
